CNN Facebook mashup – Obama’s Inauguration
A good example of a live action interactive mashup can be experienced live on CNN.com by clicking on the live coverage link for the Obama presidential inauguration.
After having logged into Facebook and visiting CNN.com’s live coverage, an application come up with the footage to the left and your friends status messges AND other people’s as well, live.
Similarly, TwitterCamp does a “gathering” of status updates related to a certain topic (with a @ tag) into a visually appealing message board (without the video aspects of the CNN mashup above).
This type of technologies have fantastic potential for audience response and engagement in live classes/events as well as asynchronous ones, allowing learners/contributors to hve a discussion around certain content.
Although not a mashup either, Voicethread.com is a good example of this “discussion” thread idea around content. The mashups just take it to another level by bringing in 2 or more technologies without the need, normally, for the creation of new accounts, etc. on the users’ side (e.g. CNN broadcast + Facebook status updates).
Mash-up learning, working similar to the way our brains naturally work: gathering info from different sources and processing that in a way unique to each of us with an outcome.
Any other examples of mashups (especially for education) you can think of? I have some in mind but I will leave this open for contributions from you, the contributors to my blog. Please add your ideas as comments below.
